The Artouste train

1,000 metres! Yes, this little tourist train will allow you to climb almost 1,000 metres! Once at the arrival, at an altitude of 2,000 metres, you will have a breathtaking view of Lake Artouste.
But before that, during these 8 kilometres of journey, on the mountainside, you will have the opportunity to observe some sublime valleys. You will be able to recognise all the Pyrenean peaks that you will have had the opportunity to contemplate during the ascent.

Artouste : a bit of history ...

In 1924, the Lac d'Artouste dam was built, doubling the volume of its nature reserve. The construction of this work by the Midi railway company required the installation of a cable car linking the valley to the Pic de la Sagette and a 50 cm gauge railway track for material trains.
In 1932, at the end of the works, the cable car was exclusively used by the S.N.C.F. for service purposes, the excursion of the Lake of Artouste now being the responsibility of the Departmental Authority of the Altitude Stations, after the commissioning of a cable car set up on the banks of Lake Fabrèges.

The gondola lift and the little train operate daily between mid-May and mid-September.
