The Pays de Lourdes et des Vallées des Gaves initiated the Patrimoine en Balade project in 2014 in order to develop a new tool to enhance the value of heritage and to be part of the development of digital tourism. As the Pays de Nay has a common history with Lourdes (Bernadette Soubirou came on pilgrimage with her family to the sanctuaries of Bétharram long before the Virgin Mary appeared to her at the Massabielle cave), it was quite natural that the village of Lestelle-Bétharram was added to the collection of walks available via the application in 2018.
Playful, adapted to new uses, with free access for all, "Patrimoine en balade" is a first step towards a new way of understanding the very essence of a place: its history, its legends, its inhabitants...
The operation of the application is very simple: "Patrimoine en balade" combines geolocation and the creation of media works. Thanks to the definition of GPS "event points" in the application, the user can wander through a territory and discover its treasures. When an event point is approached, a notification is sent to the walker's smartphone indicating that content is to be discovered.
Download it for free from Google Play or the App store and activate it at Place Saint Jean to start your walk in a different way. In addition, wifi is available free of charge in the central square so you can go straight there to explore a new facet of the bastide.
