Balade patrimoine sur les traces des mines de Baburet

The iron reserves of l’Ouzom have been exploited since antiquity. Ferrières, etymologically speaking, means the presence of ore or forges. The story of the mine of Baburet is linked to the story of the valley, which is cut in two, with its left bank in the valley of Ossau and its right bank in the Val d’Azun, and witnessed many disputes over the mines, the forges and the woods. Nevertheless, the mine attracted many workers of different origins. During its golden age, a railway was built to take the ore to the lowland. Now dismantled, the line served to split the road in two. One of its renovated bridges allows the passage of the “Eurovelo” cycle route.
