Sanctuaires de Bétharram

Lestelle-Bétharram was known for being, above all, a place of pilgrimage near Lourdes, which today accounts for the presence of a sanctuary and a calvary. For nearly eight centuries, the Virgin has been venerated in Bétharram under several popular names. In 1616, a large cross planted on the hill fell after a violent storm and rose again in a dazzling light. For over 200 years, the sanctuary was called Notre Dame du Calvaire [Our Lady of the Calvary]. It is in this place full of history and legends that you'll be welcomed by a father to share his passion with you and teach you about this heritage that is listed as a Historic Monument.
